1 GOAL - EDUCATION FOR ALL

In 2000, 164 world governments came together to create the Education for All goals. 189 governments also created the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

1GOAL is a new campaign for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to ensure that every child worldwide has the opportunity to go to school and learn.

They promised to make sure there was enough money and that the policies were in place to make it a reality. Since then many countries have abolished school fees, spending was increased by $4 billion and an extra 40 million children are now going to school.

1GOAL is collecting names and support from the public, footballers and celebrities to make a united plea to all governments to meet their target on 'Education for All'.

This support will then be used to encourage new commitments from governments attending the High Level Summit that will be hosted on July 7 in Cape Town by the South African Government during the World Cup.

1GOAL Co-Founder, Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, commented:
The World Cup Education Summit offers those children hope of a reprieve and the chance to go to school before the next World Cup in 2014. There have been many great goals in the history of football, but delivering education for 72 million children around the world could be the greatest goal of all time. This is a historic opportunity to end global poverty. I urge world leaders to go to South Africa and live up to their promises of universal education."
