HUGH'S HAVEN AND NORTHRIDE LADIES CIRCLE
NLC ASSISTS HUGH'S HAVEN
Northridge Ladies Circle chartered 22 years ago. We do side-by-side projects with Agora which is an organisation for ladies from the age of 42 years and older. Many of the ladies who have been involved in Circle then move to Agora, still giving them an opportunity of helping their community.
We have on-going projects and fundraisers which help us make a difference in our community. Annually we have an event called Black Bra. This is an event for 350 ladies (many Breast Cancer sufferers or survivors) and we make donations to Bosom Buddies, Reach for Recovery and this year we also made a donation to Pink Drive.
Currently we are providing lunch for a primary school girl and pay for her school fees. This girl was recently ranked the 2nd highest girl in academics and the 5th highest in Grade 6 in her school. We are also helping raise funds for the school fees of a child in high school (who resides at Hugh’s Haven).
In June we hosted a comedy evening to raise funds for a 24 year old who was involved in a terrible car accident and who only had hospital cover. He will require many months of out-of-hospital rehabilitation. On an annual basis we run the sweet stall at Firlands Children’s Home in Linden.
On Mandela Day this year we donated food and blankets to FORA (Friends Of Rescued Animals).
Some of the fundraisers that we host are:
Black Bra
Quiz night
Donkey Derby
World AIDS Day Benefit Concert
Comedy Night
Some of our current projects are:
Buy a Lunch Box (Lunch for Angel)
Let’s Walk (Getting people mobile again)
Belle of the Ball (We donate dresses, underwear and jewellery, get a make-up school to do make-up and help make matriculants who can’t afford outfits for their matric dance feel like a princess for a day)
Paws Cause (Animals)
Another Brick in the Wall (Paying for School Fees)
