My partner and I own Non - Amateur golf in South Africa and have registered it world wide as IGT (International Golf Tournaments). Now, NA golf is a swear word in RSA as we are stirring up the masses and taking people out of their boxes....
Some history....
You have traditionally SAGA - South African Amateur Golf Asc and the PGA - Prof Golf Asc and since 2003 my partner registered SANAG - SA Non amateur golf - this is where you can play for money of your club handicap....
Controvertial....YES!
This means that golfers in RSA have a CHOICE, they can affiliate to SAGA (if they want.....that is if they still want to play league or provincial golf) or they can affiliate to SANAG. Naturally, SAGA hate us and are fighting us hand and foot....and teeth! We are back (in terms of golfing) to the days when Danie Craven fought for amateur status within the rugby ranks! Keep our South Africans in their BOXES!
What does NA golf mean?
It means that any golfer in RSA who belongs to a club and has an official handicap may join The Players Tour and play tournament golf and win any amount of cash that is set up as prize money. Our website explains everything and you enter tournaments on the web as well. We do all tournaments online and therefore no prize givings....you can leave straight after the game and we pay your winnings into your bank account - no danger of walking around with cash on hand and no drinking and driving. Our tournaments are marshalled and NO cheating is tolerated. Currently we only have tournaments in Gauteng on Tuesdays at Blue Valley Golf Estate and Observatory.
We have A's, NA's and PGA members competing on our tour. A's can only win vouchers or prizes as prescribed by the Amateur Rules and all other players win cash! Our avg winning score is 38 Stab points (70 nett) and we alternate Gross and Stab formats in our tournaments.
My partner, Cois du Plooy, is currently negotiating with 2 investors abroad to take the concept globally.....this is mainly because of the "in the box thinking" of South Afrcans and the restraint of trade that SAGA imposes on their members.
I am a NA South African golfer and proud of it!
