BLOOD:SHOT
“AN AFRICAN DREAM GONE AWRY”
Market Theatre Laboratory 2009
Young Julius Desiree Sese-Min grows up in the countryside of rural Zamunda, dreaming of helping his people and driving his own Mercedes Benz.
Cut to future: Julius’s dream is realised in the form of his landslide victory for the presidency of the newly formed Democratic Republic of Zamunda. The world watches on in delight as the citizens of Zamunda celebrate the realisation of an African Dream.
However, President Sese-Min has a dark side, a side darker than Idi Amin’s backside. In fact, it’s very possible that that dark side could hijack his body, and use it in ways that could see the dream deferred.
Bold imagery and visually kinetic performance are deftly fused to create a vibrant & compelling physical theatre work that stirs the soul, and moves the bowels.
About the show
BLOODSHOT “An African Dream Gone Awry” premiered to critical acclaim at the 2009 Grahamstown National Arts Festival. Cue Newspaper gave the show 4 stars and had this to say...
“powerful performances from the 3 actors create an immersing experience”.
The show was then invited to Cape Town’s Post-Grahamstown Season hosted by the Theatre Arts Admin Collective where it tantalized the sleepy city!
And now...this December... for a limited time only...Jozi audiences will finally get a dose of the African Dream as BLOODSHOT hits the Market Theatre Laboratory for an exclusive run of 7 performances. Don’t miss it!
