KINGS OF LEON DOCUMENTARY - TALIHINA SKY

Support bands

Nokia, 5FM and SABC3 are proud to announce that Die Heuwels Fantasties, Shadowclub and the Black Hotels have been confirmed as the support bands for Kings of Leon.

Die Heuwels Fantasties are revered for their prolific live performances and have gathered a large fan base since their inception in 2008.  Die Heuwels Fantasties has played at several major festivals and won notable awards in South Africa for their music and music videos.  Highlights include the South African Music Award for Best Alternative Afrikaans Album in 2010 and the MK Award for Best Group in 2011.

That Shadowclub planned to record their debut album in just 12 days, but completed it in 9, says much about the Jhb-based trio’s attitude to music. Their rootsy, bluesy rock is purposely fuss free.  Like the classic rock acts that inspire them, Shadowclub are about powerful songs performed with a passion that explodes from the speakers and, live, can be felt at full force by their fans.  They recently performed on 5FM’s (Live)5 hosted by Catherine to a packed live audience.  Check out the video & awesome gallery.

The Black Hotels' first release, a five-track EP called Beautiful Mornings, made them one of the most critically acclaimed bands of 2007 with the singles Natalie and Beautiful Mornings receiving much airplay.  In 2009 The Black Hotels recorded their first full-length album Films for the Next Century. The album was released in May 2009 and was nominated for a South African Music Award for Best Alternative Album. The Star Tonight named it Album of the Year and The Sunday Times included it in its Top 10 Albums of The Year.  Three of their tracks have made their way onto the 5FM playlist.

The support bands are Shadowclub, The Black Hotels and Die Heuwels Fantasties. The first band will go on at 18h30.

Kings of Leon will go on stage at 21h00.

The Currie Cup Final on Sat at the Kings of Leon concert in Jhb will NOT be broadcast at the stadium. We ask you to please arrive early at the venue to avoid queues and frustration - we advise you to make an alternative solution e.g. PVR the game and watch it after the show.

The tickets which show the March 2011 dates are valid and will allow you access into the stadium.

There will be NO video screens to the left & right of the stage. In consultation with Kings of Leon, the stage set has been designed with the audience’s overall experience in mind. This is an intensely visual show, with an incredible investment in lights, LEDs & other effects, and we believe the screens will detract from the effect of the show.

Tour updates

The Kings of Leon tour to South Africa - originally scheduled for March 2011 - was postponed to October 2011, due to surgery on drummer Nathan Followill’s torn right labrum and bicep.

Said Nathan:  "Sorry to all the fans in Australia and South Africa. My bum wing needs more time to heal but we'll be back later this year. Sorry again”.

Fans with tickets to the original March 2011 tour dates are advised to hold onto these tickets, as these will be valid upon presentation at the venues for the October shows.

In cases where the ticket holder is unable to attend the October dates, the period for a full refund has now expired (31 March 2011).

Tickets for the two concerts now scheduled for October 2011 are available to purchase through Computicket.

Kings of Leon documentary - Talihina Sky

KOL - Talihina Sky

TO BE RELEASED ON DVD and BLU RAY

RCA Records is excited to announce the release of Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon at the end of October 2011.  The release will be available on both standard DVD and Blu Ray.  The DVD and Blu Ray editions will come with 30 minutes of bonus features including additional scenes not included in the film, two commentaries from the band and filmmakers as well as home-movie footage. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 21, garnered huge praise and was acquired by Showtime, premiering on the network on August 21.

When three teenaged brothers and their cousin rebelled against their strict, religious Southern upbringing to form Kings of Leon, their humble back story garnered almost as much attention as their music.  Many questioned if they were really related and if rumors of their father being a Pentecostal preacher were true.  Since then, the band has achieved worldwide, Grammy® Award-winning success and Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon lies to rest the mystery and myths as it details the rise to fame from their bible belt beginnings.

The documentary kicks off at the annual Followill family reunion in the back woods of Talihina, OK, where the boys return to their roots and unwind with their family.  First-time director and Followill friend Stephen C. Mitchell weaves personal home videos, unedited interviews and behind-the-scenes footage of the band’s journey from their small-town beginnings -- spent in poverty and touring the circuit with their father, a Pentecostal evangelist minister, and their devout mother -- to living the rock star dream.

Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon is produced by Casey McGrath for Phear Creative and executive produced by Nathan, Caleb, Jared and Matthew Followill.
