A RETURN TO THE FAMILIAR

POSTED BY KAZAKHMEDIC, MARCH 22, 2010 11:35 AM | PERMALINK | 0 VOTES

For some odd and strange reason I don't have much on my mind. Maybe it means I'm reaching a more mature age and state of mind?
Recently I moved over to different division within International SOS Namibia, by going over I return to what I deem my first love with regards to medicine as a whole, remote site medicine. Basically the job this time round will entail mobilization of the site. A Uranium mine on the west coast of Namibia. Apparently they will have a construction phase going there over the next two years which, once concluded will make it the second biggest Uranium mine in the world. A pretty big feat for a country that's celebrating 20 years of independence today.

Either way, I am really excited about this position. It's a return to what I know and love best in medicine. Granted the money isn't anywhere near the international norm, for now it will suffice though. While there seems to be tons of work around again after the "global financial crisis" issue, I reckon I will stick to this for a while. At the very least until my child's born in August. Who knows, I might like so much that I will complete the 2 year contract and stay longer for another.

Namibia itself is a harsh and unforgiving country. So to it seems are some of the inhabitants of it. The sad part is, when you need help or move on to bigger and better things for you and your family it causes more problems and issues than I would have though it could. Rather than be happy for someone, true to human nature, there's anger and loathing (loathing might be a strong word but I can't think of anything else right now). Oh well, as my late granny used to say "they will get over it". This weekend was supposed to have been my last operational days in Windhoek, but Paramedics are in short supply in Namibia as a country so I will be returning to Windhoek on the 31st of March for another week of bullshit and politics.

Oh well, at least the end is near. Soon I will be on a remote site doing what I do best for six weeks, before heading back home for six weeks of nothing but r&r. I might even start a little sideline business, who knows. Since the whole country's jumping on the "world cup" band wagon trying to make a quick buck or two. I will have six weeks to think about ;). I the mean time, I will keep my ear to ground for any decent positions that may creep up from time to time.

Till next time...

Hey KM :)

I don't know how you do it! How on earth do you cope being away from SB for so long at a time. I know that if anything you guys must be so used to it by now but still it surely can't be "just another one of those things.... "

Congrats to you and SB on the coming of your little one! That is such great news and i wish the best to you both.
I hope that you guys will be posting pics for us all to see!

Stay well

Hey HWT, glad to see you are still around. More and more familiar faces popping out of the woodwork here. Makes me happy. I suppose we are used to it, it's never easy saying good bye at the airport, this time was harder though. It's been more than a year since I did the wholeworking away from home. But we wil get through it.

Thank you for the wishes, we are really excited.
