Lonehill Estate (Nathan Ro, David Waugh, Sunshine D and Mark van den Berg) is one of the top live performing bands in South Africa. With their mischievous rock sound, their shows are riddled with humorous anecdotes and eye-twitchingly good music. The band has achieved much in recent years. Here are some of the highlights so far.
The band burst onto radio in 2005 with hit singles "Girl On A Roof" and "Skyward" dominating the airwaves.
In 2006 The band was listed in Cosmo’s “Bands to watch” list.
In 2007 the band represented South Africa in London at the Global
Battle of the Bands where their drummer at the time (Travis Marc) took home the award for best drummer
In 2008 Lonehill Estate released their second studio album "Hong Kong Dollar" which featured the hit "Memories." The song was originally written for a movie entitled "My Facebook Reunion" which unfortunately was never made. The band did however get to perform alongside Muse, Korn, Good Charlotte and 30 Seconds to Mars at the 2008 Mycokefest that same year.
In 2009 Lonehill Estate's ballad "Forty" was used in the comedy "Finding Lenny" starring Barry Hilton.
Lonehill has received much criticism for their music being too eclectic in the past and the band has decided to funnel their influences into a genre that is sure to please. The band has been in talks about doing a movie and has just released their new single “Gangstar” which they say will bridge the gap between their previous works and their new electro-infused pop sound.
