Roger joined 5FM in April 2004.

Some call him as mad as a hatter, but the weekday presenter – part of a league of legendary 5FM veterans - is just easy going and up to any challenge you give him.

QUICKFIRE Q&A:

If you had to sum up yourself in 10 seconds, what would you say?

A creative entertainer that has a passion for new music, meeting interesting people, learning and discovering new things.

Where were you born and raised?

I am an original Capetonian, raised at the seaside.

In which towns have you lived and where are you living currently?

Originally from a small town, Fish Hoek in the Western Cape, I now live in Johannesburg.

Which languages can you speak?

English.

What are your favourite towns or cities visited in SA and abroad?

I am fortunate and have visited many parts of the world. California, Mexico, New York, Paris, Stockholm Sweden, Berlin, Spain and others in-between. But home is home! I would say that there is nowhere quite like the Western Cape. I love to spend my down time anywhere along the Atlantic seaboard in our Mother City!

What are your hobbies?

In the little spare time that I have, I really enjoy learning how to fix and build anything!

What is the craziest thing you’ve done?

I have had many adventures in club land. Broadcasting live from Ibiza for many years during the European summers has always been packed with crazy memories. Taking my radio shows out of the studios. Flying on a private plane with Rihanna, we travelled the world from Canada to Eastern Europe. One of the craziest trips ever, made some great friends… I will never forget it.

I remember hosting shows from LA for the MTV music awards a few years ago, discovering the underbelly of Los Angeles. It was crazy! Radio, TV and social media feeds from the City of Angels in simulcast, it was one of the first of its kind at that time.

I've broadcast from the back seats of people’s cars in rush hour traffic. Live from the hottest clubs and stages at EDM concerts. I’ve interviewed Richard Branson, Timbaland, Dynamo, William Shatner, Diplo, The Swedish House Mafia, Radio 1’s Pete Tong ... I am sure it could all make a great book one day.

Which pets do you have, if any?

I am a passionate dog fanatic. We have a Great Dane and 4 Boston Terriers. We are often involved in charity work relating to animal welfare and, if I could, I would adopt them all!

Stephen Fry, Kanye West, Christopher Nolan, John Cleese, Robin Williams.

Favourite movies and / or series of all time?

I really enjoy books and movies that explore the world of science fiction. John Washington is outstanding in the 2020 science fiction action spy film ‘Tenet’ – Check it out!

Describe your home’s interior style?

Our house is definitely eclectic, bohemian, mixed with contemporary. Adventurous and colourful.

What is your ideal holiday, described in one line?

Eating my way through Italy!

Which things would you most want to learn to do?

Learn how to speak new languages and play new musical instruments!

A hidden talent that you could probably get paid for:

Doing voices for cartoon characters. Playing chess and video games!

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

An invisibility cloak could certainly come in handy!

Which sports, if any, do you watch?

Formula 1 racing has become a fan favourite at our house. We are diehard Lewis Hamilton fans – he really is just too cool and simply brilliant.

Which causes are you really passionate about?

Animal and child welfare.

What are the top things on your bucket list?

To be a great dad. To climb the pyramids in Egypt!

Which things in the world (and people) do you dislike?

Substance abuse. Crimes or violence of any kind committed against women, children or animals.

Which things make the world (and people) awesome?

Music, art and animals.

What’s your favourite thing about your 5FM gig?

It really is more like a fun hobby. A live DJ mix performance, every evening, where I hand pick the best new music from some of the world’s most talented artists and music creators! I really am blessed.
