By now the average person has heard the word 'Avatar' more than they'll ever probably hear it....in their lifetime.

I'm willing to bet that 90% of the population didn't know the word Avatar pre-Cameron-hype. The movie has been ridiculously successful and sci-fi nuts and non-sci-fi-nuts have enjoyed it (especially in 3D)

I saw a failbook picture today of a guy who posted the following in his status "I loved Avatar, I wish the whole world was in 3D" *cough* it is you dumba$$.....anyway, I digress.

MakeUseOf have highlighted a very cool Avatar creation site:

Avatars are supposed to represent you on the web and static images do it pretty poorly. Avatara is a 3d avatar creator that makes it better by letting you create a customized 3D avatar for all your social network profiles.

You can choose a pre-made avatar or create your own from scratch. When creating your own, you are asked to choose from a variety of options and select your avatar’s face, skin, eye color, hair, body and clothing. Once done, you can also select the type of animation you want for your avatar like run, sad, shouting, sleepy and dancing. You can also type a custom message to go with your avatar. Once your avatar is created, you can either share it via email or post it on any social network by providing your credentials.
