SEXY MEN'S HEALTH LOOK WINNER CANOES FOR CANCER
Brendan Currin is a fifth-year medical student and the winner of the Men’s Health Look 2008. Brendan works at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and is passionate about saving lives - a passion that lead him to help raise funds for Breast Cancer while competing in the Hansa Powerade Dusi Canoe Marathon 2009. The Hansa Powerade Dusi Canoe Marathon is from January 15-17 and covers 210 kilometres.

Brendan’s paddling partner is Alice Rawlinson, and thanks to Alice’s father, the couple will be paddling in a bright pink double canoe. Many paddlers will know the Rawlinson name well as the entire family is rather gifted in the use of a canoe. Alice has previously secured 2nd (K2) and 4th (K1) places in 2002 and 2003 respectively. What's going to make this year's effort stand out is the fact that it will be done in pink. As Alice is a physiotherapist and Brendan a final year medical student, it's a cause that's close to both of their hearts.

“I have been trying to work out how to get down the river in a pink canoe and still look like a man” Brendan laughs. “It all clicked when I started watching the cricket on the 3rd of Jan. The test match was dedicated to breast cancer awareness. I thought of dressing us up completely in pink and actually paddling for breast cancer awareness in SA. I think it will be a good thing for me to show that at heart we are all really breast men! (plus … 1% of men actually get breast cancer)” says Brendan.
Cause Marketing Fundraisers will be assisting Brendan and Alice to create awareness and raise funds for breast cancer. All funds raised at this event will go to the first South African Mobile Mammography Unit to be launched in March this year.
THE 1st SA MOBILE MAMMOGRAPHY UNIT
Breast cancer is a national disease affecting 1 in 26 women. With the announcement of the future launch of M-Net new Breast Check Unit, the nation’s mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters and daughters may now stand a chance of beating this disease through early detection and education.
This mobile unit will travel into the heart of South African communities to educate both rural and urban women on the dangers of breast cancer and the values of early detection. This will be done through easy-to-understand visual material in the vernacular as well as teaching correct breast self-examination techniques.
