THE LENTSWE POETRY PROJECT

SABC 2 is once again embarking on the Lentswe Poetry Project from this Thursday, 11 December. This uplifting project seeks to discover and develop new local voices in poetry, talking about the issues that shape our current cultural landscape.

THE JUDGES

Donato Francesco Mattera and Masoja Msiza have been appointed as the main judges selecting the final collection of poems, which will be filmed and screened on SABC 2 from 2009.
 
Mattera has been celebrated as a journalist, editor, writer and poet. He is also acknowledged as one of the foremost activists in the struggle for a democratic South Africa, and helped to found the Union of Black Journalists, the African Writer’s Association and the Congress of South African Writers. Several prestigious literary awards have also been bestowed on his work.
 
Msiza kicked off his career as a poet and a stage actor, and later as television actor, musician and storyteller. After travelling and performing around the world, he received various top awards in the above-mentioned art fraternities. Msiza has taken his poetry to heal, educate, rehabilitate, entertain people in prisons, at schools, churches, workplaces and to communities at different levels of society.
