about presenter

Mtha’s journey with 5FM began in April 2024, but her love for radio and storytelling took root long before that. In 2022, while studying at the University of Cape Town, she joined UCT Radio and quickly made waves as the host of the lunchtime show. With a background in drama, debating and public speaking, and a Grade 7 Certificate in Speech and Drama from Trinity College London awarded with Distinction, she has always felt at home behind the mic.

Now based in Johannesburg, Mtha is completing her Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, building on her Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Accounting from UCT. Whether she’s breaking down financials or breaking into the charts, she is embracing her very own Hannah Montana era, effortlessly blending the world of business with her passion for entertainment.

3 things: sassy, classy and a lil bad assy!

I’m a Joburg girl through and through! Well, technically, I was born in the rolling hills of the Eastern Cape in a small town called King William’s Town (eQonce). I moved to Johannesburg when I was two years old, and it’s been home ever since.

I currently live in the big JHB! Lived in Cape Town for a few years for university.

English, Xhosa, Afrikaans (does “om te beklemtoon” count?), and I like to think I can speak French — I took it for two years in high school, but honestly, all I really remember is fromage.

South Africa is stunning, we’re so spoilt! Cape Town will always take the crown for me, because wow. Abroad, I’m obsessed with Rome and the little villages of Tuscany, absolute dreamscapes.

Brunch with the girls, watching sunsets, doing my 10-step skincare routine, making iced matcha lattes, and getting lost in music. There’s no better feeling than discovering a new song that hits you right in the soul.

I once hopped into the front seat of a police van to help the cops catch the guy who stole my phone at The Grove. Long story short — I got my phone back in 20 minutes. Thank you very much.

I’ve got a Labrador cross named Lulu, she’s the sweetest pup!

“What are the benefits of…”

Rihanna, Steve Biko, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Barack Obama, and Nicki Minaj (duh).

Game of Thrones. (Fun fact: I’ve watched it three times, start to finish!)

Cosy, clean, and chic — with just the right amount of extra.

Somewhere tropical, sunny, and vibey — white sand beaches, good food, great people, and endless pina coladas.

How to play chess! (My six-year-old brother is teaching me, haha.)

Interior decorating — I’d absolutely eat up a DIY home makeover project.

Teleportation. I’m notoriously (and fashionably) late, so being able to arrive anywhere instantly would be a game-changer!

I don’t really watch sports on purpose, but if there’s a braai or a watch party with friends, I’m there — especially for Formula 1 or SA rugby. Go sports!

I’m passionate about the socio-economic empowerment of Black South Africans. There’s so much untapped potential in young entrepreneurs who know their communities’ needs but lack access and support. I hope to one day help unlock that potential.

Solo travel for a month or two in a foreign country.rnHost a live televised award show — like Miss South Africa or even the Grammys!rn(The rest I like to keep close to my heart.)

RUDE PEOPLE.

Love. Music. Friendship. It’s really that simple.

5FM is the home of legends! So many icons have sat in this same seat — it’s such an honour. Above all, I love engaging with the whole nation every weekend. 5Nation has been so kind to us, and I love being my crazy self with them every morning.
