CASSPER NYOVEST AND ZANELE POTELWA TO HOST 2026 SAMAs

Jul 23,2026

Johannesburg, Thursday, 23 July 2026 – It’s official: SA Hip-Hop icon, Cassper Nyovest and Mzansi’s queen of the airwaves, 5FM’s very own Zanele Potelwa will host the 2026 South African Music Awards.

The news was officially revealed on 5FM’s 5 Drive this afternoon.

Mzansi woke up to the red-hot news that Cassper would be hosting the 2026 SAMAs, after he dropped the announcement on social media. Soon after, however, rumour started spreading that he needed a co-host, begging the question: “Who will be standing next to him on the biggest music stage in Mzansi?”

5FM, being all about banging tunes, A-list artists and Mzansi’s hottest awards, was ON IT, with Nick Archibald, co-host of 5 Drive, revealing to the 5 Breakfast team that they would have Cassper in studio the afternoon to chat about his big news. They challenged Nick to twist Cassper’s arm for all the co-host low-down when he arrived.

It was challenge accepted and what ensued was an on-air and social media explosion – hype, suspense, buzzing polls, some wild guesses around the mystery silhouette figure next to Cassper, and pure youth culture energy. Listeners knew something BIG was coming.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Cassper walked into the 5 Drive studio. There was a subtle hint that he had an “exclusive” around his co-host to share with the team, but he first needed to get down to business. After chatting music, then about one of his biggest career highlights of hosting the SAMAs and then shifting to the energy that he hopes to bring to the show, the team moved to the million-dollar question on the whole of SA’s lips: “What is this ‘exclusive’ that you have for the team?”

What happened next brought the whole studio to a standstill: Cassper pulled out a sealed envelope, teasing that the exclusive surprise was inside. The room and the entire 5 Nation went into full-on suspense mode. All he said was “I think you’re going to like her…”

He then handed the envelope directly to Zanele. Caught slightly off-guard, she opened it live on air, started reading “Your hosts for the 2026 SAMAs are Cassper Nyovest, and…” and, as she unfolded the rest of the note, she paused, gasped and said, “No man, Cassper, is this a joke?! ZANELE POTELWA?!”

Cassper confirmed: “Ladies and gentlemen, my co-host for the SAMAs 2026, Zanele Potelwa!”

Zanele still didn’t trust it, saying that her management surely would have informed her. Cassper simply responded, “I’m serious! Call your guy!”, which she promptly did, live on air. Picking up the phone, he said he’d been waiting for this call. The news was TRUE.

The studio erupted. The listeners erupted. Social media erupted. And South Africa officially had its 2026 SAMA hosting duo.

Cassper says, “I’m very excited to be going home and reuniting with the SAMAs in such an incredible way. It’s an honour to follow in the footsteps of legends like HHP and Kabelo Mabalane (Bouga Luv), who have also hosted the SAMAs. I’ve got so much to say about it, but if I had to put it in a nutshell, I’m simply excited and deeply honoured. I’m also really looking forward to working with Zanele Potelwa. I look forward to learning from her while also bringing my own energy and vibe to the stage. Together, I think we’re going to create the kind of hosting experience people will remember for years to come.”

Zanele added, “This feels UNBELIEVABLE!!! All Glory to Jesus Christ! My heart is pumping custard because this is a dream come true. What a surreal moment. This a milestone I am so excited for and to be able to share it with an icon: Cassper Nyovest. What an honour! I can’t wait to be of service to the country and deliver an unforgettably BEAUTIFUL show. It’s going to be one for the history books in the BEST way possible and I am so excited to be the nation’s Host and the People’s Champion on that stage, staying true to the epitome of excellence – ‘NO DNA, JUST RSA’. Shout out Jesus Christ for this moment

that He orchestrated so beautifully, because it couldn’t have happened without every step leading up to this giant leap.”

The glitz and glam 32nd Annual South African Music Awards “Homecoming Edition” will take place on August 15, 2026 at the Sun City Superbowl in the North West Province, where Cassper and Zanele will lead the celebration of South African music’s biggest night.
