Nick Hamman joined 5FM in May 2014.

He began his career in broadcasting at MFM in Stellenbosch while studying Politics and Philosophy. After winning Best Afternoon Campus Drive Show he moved to Good Hope FM in 2013 and eventually 5FM a year later.

Nick has become synonymous with innovative radio having pioneered a 330km on air walk from Joburg to Polokwane, 5 Heritage Tours as well as a radio tour around Southern Africa.

I am fascinated by life and consider myself exceptionally lucky to be able to experience the world. I take as many opportunities to experience as much of it as possible.

Cape Town.

Cape Town until I was 18, Stellenbosch until 23, Joburg since then.

English Fluently, I can get by in Afrikaans but will likely never host a show on RSG.

Travel is a massive passion. Favorite places in SA: Giyani, Durban, Cape Town. Outside of South Africa: eSwatini, Lesotho and Botswana. I believe the best travel is that which I have not yet experienced.

Playing and watching music, having conversation over beer and spending time outdoors.

Walked 330km between Johannesburg and Polokwane.

Willow and Bailey – 1-year-old rescue dogs.

Interesting things to do in (whatever place I’m in).

Paul McCartney, a listener of 5 Drive, my dog (using an app to talk), Christopher Hitchens and Howard Stern.

School of Rock and The Office (US).

Mid-century interior with pressed ceilings, fireplaces, wooden floors and plenty of plants and sunshine.

In a place I’ve never been with people I’ve never met.

I always try to be more patient with people.

Teleportation – to see as much of the world as possible.

Rugby - purely for the gees and an excuse to braai.

Helping children, fighting poverty and education.

Build a family. Leave the radio industry better than I found it. Write a novel. Travel as much as possible. Retire comfortably.

People who live without passion, racists and people who harm children and animals.

People who are interested in the world. Motivated, passionate and driven people who crave experiences that push their boundaries and take them out of their comfort zone.

The opportunity to entertain the country. South Africa is one of the most interesting places on the planet and the chance to have a national voice is exhilarating
